A geohash is a short code for a rectangular area on the map. The geohash parameter selects nodes inside that area.
Sizes are given at the equator; away from it, areas are narrower. Codes are case insensitive. Node locations are approximate: a node whose location is known only roughly matches shorter codes but not longer ones. When a 4-character code returns 471, its 3-character parent or geohashnear usually finds nodes.

Options

  • geohashnear adds the 8 surrounding areas of the same size: -geohash-dr5r-geohashnear. It applies to a single code. At the end of the username it needs no value; elsewhere it is written as geohashnear-on.
  • Up to 5 codes can be listed: -geohash-dr5r,dp3w.
  • country is optional and limits the area to the given country, which helps when an area crosses a border: -country-US-geohash-dp. A list of countries can be used with a single code.
  • asn and type (device type) can be combined with geohash: -geohash-dr5r-asn-7922.
  • subdivision, city and zipcode cannot be combined with geohash.
  • As with other geo parameters, only one parameter may hold a list; geohashnear counts as a list.
A sticky session with geohash stays inside the area: if its node moves outside, the session continues on another node in the area, and with sessionmode-norotate the request returns 475. A request with an invalid code or combination returns 400; a request with no available node in the area returns 471.
